Description:
This course is a clinical course in which the students will assist and perform many surgical procedures and mange hospitalized patients.
Intended learning outcomes:
At the end of this course the students should be able to:
Supervise/review and correct the patient's work up for future surgery performed by the junior residents.
Discuss findings, diagnosis, and treatment plan options with his staff first and then with the patient and family and must obtain an informed consent to carry out the treatment for advanced surgical cases.
Be familiar with the necessary drugs needed to control the patient’s surgical condition e.g. Antibiotics, steroids and analgesics, as well as the drugs necessary to control his medical conditions, and refer the case to the proper specialty as needed.
Review and correct the admission notes, orders, medications and discharge summary written by the junior residents.
Accurately write the operative notes of the advanced surgical cases that he is involved in.
Mange all minor surgical procedures under GA, supervising junior residents while performing the minor surgery in the operating room and involved in the major cases as dictated by his skills and knowledge which shall be decided by the attending staff.
Work under stressful situations in the OR and his performance will be evaluated by the attending staff.
Plan and work up orthognathic surgical cases and will be able to perform major part of the surgery as dictated by his knowledge and case preparation.
