THE ELECTRON MICROSCOPY LABORATORY

JEOL JSM-6360 LV Scanning Electron Microscopy

The JSM 6360 LV features the latest technology combining the electron microscopy with Windows 2000 Professional Computer Software. It gives the user the comfort of studying the surface of the specimen in a wide LCD Monitor through the use of Graphic Interface User.  With this application, the user or researcher can photograph the images, Save, Copy and Print.

The new scanning microscope enable the user to do different applications such as;  to gather images using the Secondary Electron Detector,  Backscattered Electron Detector that can processed Topographical as well as Composition Images, and the upgrading of the Energy Dispersive System (EDS)  that could analyze areas of the specimen or materials to be examined.  It incorporates the used of Link ISIS OXFORD MICROANALYTICAL SYSTEM hardware that includes SEMQUANT Software for Quantitative Analysis, Silicon – Lithium Detector,  Pb/Quant Software for Quantitative analysis, Autobeam software where you see images of the specimen and analyze any spot on it,  the Speed map and Quantmap Software’s for high speed Digital X-Ray Mapping, Line scanning and image processing.

PVT – SAMDRI CRITICAL POINT DRYER

Thru this procedure, biological specimens (human or animal tissues) can be dried completely by applying heat and pressure through the chamber.

JFC – 1100 FINE COAT ION SPUTTER

Since most of the biological specimens are non-conductive specimens, it is but necessary to coat the specimens by using metallic coat like gold, platinum or carbon. It is done to minimize or totally eliminate the charging effect to the surface of the specimen being observed.  This ion sputtering device performs rapid and efficient metal coating on microscopic specimen.  Uniform coating is possible as coating particles will reach even hard portions.  Gold target is primarily used metal since the material is stable and sputters easily.

JFC-1600 AUTO FINE COATER

This is the equipment for coating the specimens using Platinum instead of gold.

Rotational and Oscillation Rheometry

Rheometer - A rheometer is used to measure the way in which a liquid, suspension or slurry flows in response to applied forces.

Rotational and Oscillation rheometry are the two-powerful technique for the measurement of complex shear rheology across all material types – sensitive enough to measure the viscosity of dilute polymer solutions, and yet robust enough to measure the viscoelasticity of high modulus polymers or composites.

FT-IR Spectrometer

FT-IR Spectrometer - FTIR spectra reveal the composition of solids, liquids by two main techniques such as reflection and transmission. The most common use is in the identification of unknown materials. The information content is very specific in most cases, permitting fine discrimination between like materials. The speed of FTIR analysis makes it particularly useful in screening applications, while the sensitivity empowers many advanced research applications.
