About
The Department of Prosthetic Dental Sciences (SDS) begun its existence with the founding of the College of Dentistry in 1975 (1395H). Discipline based courses in Prosthodontics had been offered to the undergraduate students and had a long history of clinical and didactic activities designed to focus, support and promote the respective courses. In collaboration with the Directorate of Postgraduate Dental Education, the department has also developed and maintained a single unified Master’s degree program in the specialty of Prosthodontics which was initiated in the early of year 1989 (1410H) as mandated by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies of King Saud University.
Today, the SDS department continues with the responsibility of providing didactic, preclinical and clinical teaching in the undergraduate program as well as maintaining accredited postgraduate program in the specialty of Prosthodontics. The dental curriculum, in general, is innovative and is designed to graduate a doctor of dental surgery who will be trained to practice general dentistry. The teaching methods are tailored to course content and include traditional lectures, group tutorials, routine laboratories and advanced simulation, clinical practice in a comprehensive care facility and community-based clinical experiences. Clinical experience often includes the management of a variety of special patient groups which represent the disciplines of implantology, geriatrics, comprehensive dental rehabilitation, temporomandibular joint disorders, fixed and removable prosthodontics.

Our graduates will demonstrate professional behavior including ethical conduct, critical thinking based on sound scientific foundation and lifelong learning.
Our graduates will be competent at the basic theoretical, clinical and laboratory skills leading to competence on diagnosis and treatment of the comprehensive prosthodontic needs of patients.
Our graduates will be competent to provide a wide spectrum of dental care, either directly or through referral, which include: complete dentures, removable and fixed partial dentures.
Our graduates will be more familiar with oral implantology theoretically and clinically through participation in diagnosis, treatment planning, assisting in surgical placement and completion of the final restoration.
Our graduates will be sought – after as clinicians, educators and researchers.
Our advance prosthodontic clinic will become a trusted source of care for the most complex prosthetic and maxillofacial prosthodontics.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Prosthetic Dental Sciences (SDS) is to achieve academic excellence and professionalism in the art and science of prosthetic dentistry through educational programs, clinical training, research projects, in addition to rendering comprehensive prosthodontic treatment.

The vision of the Department in few years to come is to continue serving the dental profession and the community by providing the undergraduate and the graduate candidates with the state of the art knowledge, techniques, skills and treatment concepts.

About
The Department of Periodontics and Community Dentistry is one of six major departments of the College of Dentistry at King Saud University. The academic interests of the department include teaching undergraduate courses and graduate courses for a master's degree in the department disciplines and contribution with the Saudi Council for Health Specialties (Saudi Specialty Certificate in Periodontics). Also the department concerns in providing advanced therapeutic health care to the patients in a specialized department clinics, as well as concerns of raising the awareness preventive measures of dental diseases through variety of community projects. programs. The department Symbolized by (NAS) and the number of faculty members is thirty-seven member, divided as follows: four professors and two associate professors and eight assistant professors and five lecturers and eighteen demonstrator , and the department consists of the following divisions

Objectives
1)Advancement of the educational process to the highest levels and access to the best global standards in this aspect.
2)Provide a high level of clinical training in the specialty of Periodontics , dental implants, and to ensure a high level of training in the specialty of community dentistry.
3)Development of the research aspect in the department so as to increase the number of published papers in refereed journals. Increasing participation and effective contribution in the research chairs related to the department specialties.
4)Development and activation of the social and public services in role of raising the awareness of oral and dental diseases. Increased participation of regional and global programs in the field community dentistry.
5)Activation the role of prevention and treatment in the fields of periodontics and dental community in addition to the role of increasing the community awareness of oral diseases through specialized department clinics.

Our mission is to educate competent students in Periodontics and Community Dentistry, to contribute significantly to scientific research and be committed to community services
