Short Description:
SDS 212: Introduction to Pre-clinical Prosthodontics and Occlusion
This is the student’s first preclinical course in the field of prosthodontics. The course is provided to the 2nd year undergraduate dental students in their second semester. The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the basic definitions, knowledge, principles and techniques that are related to the four major branches of prosthodontics (removable, fixed, implant prosthodontics and dental occlusion). Additionally, the course attempts to mirror briefly the various clinical and laboratory prosthodontic steps being performed on partially and completely edentulous patients. This course is comprised of series of lectures and laboratory exercises with no clinical sessions.
SDS 323: Preclinical Removable Prosthodontics
This is the first course offered in Removable Prosthodontics. It consists of the didactic and practical components concerned with the procedures involved in the construction of both complete and removable partial dentures. This is a one-year course during the Third Year.
SDS 333: Preclinical Fixed Prosthodontics
This is a one year course during the Third Year. It is an introductory course to Fixed Prosthodontics. The course represents the orientation phase to the discipline of fixed prosthodontics (FP).
SDS 423: Clinical Removable Prosthodontics I
This is the first course in Clinical Removable Prosthodontics. It consists of didactic and clinical components. The course is limited to the teaching of complete and conventional Removable Partial Dentures. The didactic component covers the theoretical background for different phases of treatment with removable partial dentures and complete dentures. The clinical component is held for the entire academic year (one clinic per week), utilized to practice common clinical procedures for patients examination, motivation, and treatment with complete and conventional removable partial dentures.
SDS 433: Clinical Fixed Prosthodontics I
This serves as a transitional phase from a preclinical to a clinical environment. It provides a framework for the student to reinforce concepts learned in the previous fixed prosthodontic course (SDS 333). This course introduces the 4th year students to the clinical aspects of delivering patient care in the specialty of fixed prosthodontics.
SDS 493: Advanced Prosthodontics and Implantology
This is given in the 5th year designed to give the student both didactic and clinical experience in the comprehensive management of a variety of prosthodontic cases. Emphasis will be placed on overdentures, single dentures, transitional denture, single crowns, bridges, post and cores, attachments and RPD with surveyed crowns and implants. The didactic component will cover general prosthodontic topics.
