The department consists of 27 full time faculty member specialized in seven specialties, 17 Saudi (63%) and 10 international staff, eighteen male and 9 female (33%). Four of the department demonstrators are currently on postgraduate scholarships. Four clinical specialist and part time staff also help in the clinical training of students.
 
Since the academic year 2006-2007 the faculty number has increased 30% compared to the previous year 2005-2006.
 
We teach 14 undergraduate courses for dental students (run every academic year concurrently in the boys and girls college campuses) beside 8 courses for the Dental Assistant and Dental Lab Technician Training Programs. The department contributes courses to postgraduate students in The Joint Postgraduate Dental Education Program at the college in addition to a Diagnostic Oral Sciences MSc + Clinical Certificate postgraduate program which was reactivated last year and admitted 6 students since then. The department is also a training center for The Internship Training Program and The Saudi Board for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and conduct yearly courses for the other Saudi Board Programs in advanced general practice dentistry, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry and prosthodontics.
 
The faculty of the department conduct scientific research and provide clinical and consultation services in the university hospitals and college clinics and laboratories. Many of the department members served or are serving at leading college administrative positions.
Finally I would like to thank the King Saud University and College of Dentistry administration for their continuous guidance and support. I would also like to recognize the role of the eleven previous department chairmen in reaching our current status.
