Description:
This course is a clinical course in which the students will assist and perform many surgical procedures and mange hospitalized patients.
Intended learning outcomes:
At the end of this course the students should be able to:
Properly work up the patient for future surgery such as ordering investigations, arranging for needed imaging, consulting the necessary service/s and performing an anesthesia preoperative assessment.
Discuss findings, diagnosis, and treatment plan options with his/her senior resident first and then with the patient and family and must obtain an informed consent to carry out the treatment.
Be familiar with the necessary drugs needed to control the patient’s condition e.g. Antibiotics and analgesics.
Write admission notes, orders, medications, operative notes and discharge summary.
Have the knowledge and skills of managing all minor surgical procedures under GA in the operating room as the surgeon in charge and assist in the major cases.
Work under stressful situations in the OR and his performance will be evaluated by the attending staff.
Be involved in planning and working up the orthognathic surgical cases and will be able to perform part of the surgery as dictated by his knowledge and case preparation.
