History
The College of Dentistry is an integral part of the collegiate system of King Saud University which began operation in 1377-1378H (1957-1958G). An essential service to the Kingdom was undertaken by the University in 1389-1390H (1969-1970G) with the establishment of the College of Medicine. The commencement of dental education six years later in 1395H was therefore a logical expansion of the objectives of providing extensive total health care in the Kingdom, as enunciated in the Development Programs of the College at the time.
The first group of students enrolled in the College at the beginning of 1396-1397H (1976-1975G) academic year. In that year, the credit-hour system was introduced whereby students are required to pass a total of 199 credit hours, the equivalent of six academic years followed by a one-year Internship, after which the student receives the Bachelor of Science in Dental Surgery (B.D.S.). The College of Dentistry started with only seven (7) male graduates the year 1402H, compared to the last academic year 1431-1432H, a hundred male and female students received the diploma of Bachelor of Science in Dental Surgery (B.D.S.).
All achievements and developments by the College will not be attained without the enjoined contributions of the past seven (8) Deans and their administrations who served the College.
